Don't be fooled.

Don't let these nice breezes and mower-free weekends fool you, winter is approaching! It is sneaky, it comes just when you think you want a break from the heat. My kids were walking past the pool yesterday exclaiming "I love winter" "I can't wait for winter" and other such foolishness.

If everyone was so danged excited about winter then why don't people flock to places like Alaska and Iceland, building houses in the middle of snow drifts, renting houses buried in snow in zero degree weather for more money that they spend in 2 months on their mortgage? Oh, that's right, that's what they do at the beach - in the hot weather - BECAUSE SUMMER IS GOOD AND WINTER IS NOT!

Don't be fooled. Winter is sneaking up and we'll all be huddled around our heaters wishing for those endless days of balmy sun. We'll wonder how we could have ever been so foolish when it's zero degrees and DARK at 5:30 PM.

Amen brother. Summer is good. Spring is good. Fall could be good if it weren't for the fact that it leads to winter. Winter sucks. Some people say they like snow, but they are not thinking straight at all. After one bad snow everyone, even those misguided people, are sick of it. In fact, it hasn't even come yet and I am already sick of it. Ice is miserable. Power outages are no fun except maybe for 20 minutes until the candle novelty wears off and the realization that you can't flush the toilets or take a shower set in. And winter sports all require a huge amount of gear not to mention clothing. Very cumbersome. And people who have to dress one or more preschoolers only to have to undress them to go potty. I shudder at the memory.
Hibernation would be the way to go. Eat a big Thanksgiving meal and then go to sleep until late March. As an added bonus we could avoid commercial Christmas too.

Yes, winter stinks! The only redeeming quality is that I get out clothes I haven't seen for awhile and it is like having a whole new wardrobe!
